Perceived Beauty

These images were used for my first project, there purpose was to show the change in personality and appearance of someone when they are themselves and when they are getting dressed up to go out. I wanted to mainly question, what do we perceive as 'Beauty'?
I asked my friends to style one half of their hair as it they were going out and the other half they left natural. They also did the same with their make up, in order to change the appearance of one side of their face.

Once I had taken the original images I then uploaded them to 'Photoshop' in which I added a gradient, so that the images appeared bolder and more unique. I then began to add words around my models head that were associated with the different appearances. For example I used the words 'Innocent, Natural, Beauty? etc for the untouched side of the face. However for the side of my models faces that they added make up too, I used words like: 'Pretty, Woman and then Beauty? again as I was trying to question what we perceive as Beauty. Is is the natural aspect of a person or their manipulated appearance that we perceive as Beauty?
